Backpack Program
The Backpack Program has been going strong since 2009. The program provides extra food on the weekends for eligible Waseca school age children that have been identified as food insecure and meet eligibility requirements.
The program is made possible by grants and the generosity of community donations, along with the commitment of Waseca School representatives and members of Grace Lutheran Church. Backpacks are filled with non-perishable foods that can be easily prepared by the students over the weekend.
School Counselors identify those school age students eligible to receive backpack food. The student names are confidential and the Food Shelf/Backpack program does not have access to those names. The amount of Backpacks needed each week is based only on the numbers provided by the School Counselors.
